I just love organizing the children’s blue folders and rolls on a Friday afternoon! I get a chance to really absorb how much wonderful work they are doing. Many of the children have large projects in progress and they will be sent home as they are completed.
We will continue our study of the West region of the United States for at least another week. I am reading aloud The Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’ Dell, which all the children really seem to be enjoying! It is a historical fiction and the setting is San Nicholas Island off the coast of California in the 1830’s. The children are making so many connections from their previous studies of Native Americans, geography, zoology, and botany. Next week many of the children will be doing detailed animal reports on some of the animals mentioned in the story……sea elephants, sea lions, sea otters, dolphins, Devil fish (Octopus), cormorants, wild dogs, and more. Please encourage your child to think about which animal they would like to study and research. There is often a long line for the classroom computer, so I encourage them to print off some information at home!
In Spanish, the children made their own passports and visited Spain. In Science, they had a wonderful lesson on plate tectonics with Ms. Mary Alston.
I was so happy to see all 19 children wearing sneakers/tennis shoes this past week. I was also smiling big at all the signed reading slips!
Next week we will be collecting new socks for the women and children at the Betty Griffin House. They are very much in need of socks at this time. My daughter has her final interview for her Girl Scout Gold Award tomorrow morning, and I can not tell you how proud and thankful we are that Moultrie Montessori School is sustaining her project. Thank you!
I decided to keep my email short this week and let the photos speak for themselves. I took them in about 30 seconds this morning and I feel they really show how hard your children are working!!
As always…TGIF!! Have a wonderful weekend and never hesitate to contact me with any concern.
